Kauai Day 2: South Side

If the rest of our days are anything like today, it's going to be a better trip than I expected. We woke up early, drank a cup of coffee on our balcony, then fixed breakfast. It was overcast and expected to rain on the north side so we headed to the south side, which is known as the sunny side.

We stopped at a couple of water falls on the east side first. We saw Opaeka'a Falls and Wailua Falls. They were pretty much like the pictures (amazing), except since there has been so much rain, the pool they flowed into was very murky.
We stopped in Lihue for lunch at a dive called Hamura's Saimin Stand, which is billed as the best saimin on the island (saimin is noodles cooked in chicken, pork or fish broth). They also have some of the best shaved ice on the island. That part of the business is called Halo Halo Shave Ice, and in true dive fashion, they only serve it when they feel like it. Luckily, they were serving it today. It was delicious!
After lunch, we were off to Spouting Horn Beach Park. It's a small lava shelf where water from waves is thrust through an opening, causing water and air to squirt out a blowhole.
Then it was beach time. We went to Poipu Beach Park. It was sunny and gorgeous there (albeit windy, but we're used to wind!).

After Poipu, went to the Sheraton Resort. Guests at Westin Princeville have privileges at Sheraton Poipu. The Sheraton has a beach front so we used their pool and hung out on their beach. It was great!

The Sheraton has a restaurant called The Point which is billed as the best place to watch the sunset. There is an open grassy area with benches in front of it, and we enjoyed the most incredible sunset from there.
As if the evening couldn't get any better, we stopped for some incredible sushi at Kintaro's between Wailua and Kapa'a on the way home. Great day!
